Buyer Guide
Ceiling Fan Mount Types: Flush Mount, Downrod, Wall and Corner
Mounting choice depends on the ceiling, the room layout, and the mounting formats the specific fan model supports. This guide covers the common formats, marks which ones our catalogue actually offers, and lists what to settle before an order is placed.
Formats marked as catalogue-backed are ones our product data lists. Flush or low-profile mounting and sloped-ceiling behaviour are general industry practice, not statements about our range, because our catalogue does not list a flush-mount model and does not state sloped-ceiling suitability for any model. This guide does not give clearance distances or downrod lengths by ceiling height: we could not source those figures to the standard this site holds.
Comparison
The common mounting formats
Four formats are used in most installations, and two situations change which one applies. Where a format is catalogue-backed, the note says which models in our range use it.
Downrod mount
Catalogue dataThe fan hangs below the ceiling on a rod, which is what lets you set the fan height independently of the ceiling. Catalogue-backed.
- Outdoor and project models in the catalogue are supplied with 12.5 cm + 25 cm or 15 cm + 25 cm downrods.
- A longer downrod puts the blades lower, which matters in rooms with a high ceiling.
- What height is correct depends on the ceiling height, the room use and local requirements, so confirm it per project rather than assuming.
Wall mount
Catalogue dataThe fan is fixed to the wall rather than the ceiling. Catalogue-backed for the compact corner fans.
- Our corner fan models are listed as wall mount or ceiling mount, including the 12-inch and 16-inch versions.
- Useful where the centre of the ceiling is occupied by a light fitting, or where there is no usable ceiling position.
- Confirm the wall construction and fixing method for the installation.
Corner mount
Catalogue dataA corner fan fixes into the corner angle of a room, on the wall or on the ceiling, so airflow comes from the edge instead of the centre. Catalogue-backed.
- The range covers 10-inch, 12-inch and 16-inch corner fans, plus a 40-inch double-head model.
- The double-head model carries two blade assemblies on one fixture, so the layout differs from the single-head models.
- Confirm the mounting format and position against the room before ordering.
Clip-on mount
Catalogue dataA small fixture that clips into place rather than being screwed to a ceiling box. Catalogue-backed for one model.
- The catalogue lists the FS-3Y-R280-JZ with a clip-on mounting, a 1.2 m cable and an ON/OFF switch.
- It is a small fan light rather than a standard ceiling fan, so treat it as a different product class.
- Confirm the surface it will be clipped to and the cable route for your installation.
Flush mount / low-profile
External referenceThe fan body sits close to the ceiling with no downrod, for rooms with limited headroom. General practice — our catalogue does not list a flush-mount model.
- Used where headroom is limited and the ceiling is flat.
- Not suitable for an angled or sloped ceiling, because there is no rod to correct the angle.
- Our catalogue does not currently include a flush-mount model, so if your project requires one, tell us and we will confirm what is available.
Sloped or angled ceilings
External referenceA sloped ceiling narrows the options, and whether a downrod works depends on the model and any angle adapter. General practice, not a statement about our range.
- Low-profile mounts are not suitable for angled ceilings.
- For downrod mounts on a sloped ceiling, suitability depends on the specific model and how the mounting bracket handles the angle.
- Send us the ceiling pitch and the model you are considering and we will confirm what the model supports.
Checklist
What to confirm about the ceiling before ordering
- Ceiling height, and the height you want the blades to sit at.
- Ceiling construction and what the fixing will attach to.
- Whether the ceiling is flat or sloped, and if sloped, by how much.
- Whether the ceiling centre is free, or already taken by a light fitting.
- Which mounting format the model you want is listed with. Not every model offers every format.
- Any local requirement for clearance that applies to your project.

Buyer FAQ
Buyer questions
- Which mount should I choose for a low ceiling?
- A flush or low-profile mount keeps the fan against the ceiling, which is the usual approach for limited headroom on a flat ceiling. Our catalogue does not list a flush-mount model at present, so tell us the ceiling height and we will confirm what is available in the range. Flush mounting is not suitable for a sloped ceiling.
- What downrod length do I need?
- It depends on your ceiling height and the height you want the blades at, so we confirm it per project rather than publishing a table. Tell us the ceiling height and the room use and we will confirm the options for the model you are considering.
- Can a ceiling fan be mounted on a wall?
- In our catalogue the corner fan range is listed as wall mount or ceiling mount, including the 12-inch and 16-inch single-head models. Confirm the wall construction and the fixing method for the installation.
- Can I use a standard fan in a corner?
- A conventional fan is designed for the centre of the ceiling. A corner fan is the format for corner positions, and it comes in 10-inch, 12-inch and 16-inch single-head versions plus a 40-inch double-head model.
- Will a downrod fan work on a sloped ceiling?
- It depends on the model and on how its mounting bracket handles the angle. Low-profile mounts are not suitable for angled ceilings. Send us the ceiling pitch and the model you are considering and we will confirm what that model supports.
Tell us about the ceiling
Send the ceiling height, whether it is flat or sloped, what the fixing will attach to, and the rooms you are equipping. We will confirm which mounting formats fit your project.
